The Dreamscape, also called the "Realm of Sleep" is the realm where dreams often associate with. All beings from Equus, Earth, and any others who sleep are capable of entering this realm. It is an area where Luna ventures to regularly to monitor dreams.
Description[]
Unlike most other known realms, there isn't an exact geography or precise landmarks to know of, as all beings that enter the Dreamscape experience a personalized version of this realm depending on the creature. No matter of physics, logic, or even mortality exist within this realm.
Depending on the creature, the Dreamscape can sometimes link its way into the real world, or into other realms of reality such as Limbo. In states like this, aspects from the Dreamscape can manifest into reality (or at the least have a high risk to). This can work both ways: as real-world forces and events can rapidly alter the dreamscape just as easily.
History[]
The Dreamscape has been visited numerous times throughout the series, taking on numerous shapes and forms with each one:
Season 1[]
In "Sombra Del Diablo" Steven Universe found himself in a pitch-black Dreamscape, forcefully altered that way thanks to Sombra's involvement. Sombra manipulates Steven into leaving his home to get his mother back.
My Little Universe: Mindwarp[]
The Dreamscape is most prominently featured within this special, as the Crystal Gems have to travel through it in order to find Steven Universe before he could be taken to Limbo by Lucid.
The Dreamscape is highly dynamic throughout the special, constantly being altered by Lucid to represent both Rose Quartz's "past", and fears that the Crystal Gems have to conquor. Beings such as amethyst appear throughout this as well.
Season 4[]
In Me and my Shadow, Steven is flying in the sky with a helicopter propeller on his back. Dogcopter appears and Steven asks for his autograph. Dogcopter meows and flies away at a tremendous speed. Pearl's head appears, which eats Steven, but quickly launches him fast enough to catch up. He sees Queztalcoatl, and he starts falling and finds himself landing on a picture frame looking to the Real-World Northern Forest.
Season 5[]
In Runt of the Cluster, Steven is shown in a dark room, being visited numerous times by his friends, who are dressed up as circus performers and forcefully insisting he is Rose Quartz. He ends up believing he is her, and the dreamscape shows himself as Rose Quartz after shattering her own Gemstone.
In 20,000 Leagues into the Earth PT1, the Dreamscape is unwittingly used by Steven in order to enter Malachite's mind, where he learns where she is thanks to a struggling Jasper.
In Hot Water, Steven and Lapis Lazuli share a dreamscape in the form of a small island. Steven dreams up a small boat for them both to ride on, allowing Lapis to reveal her feelings about Malachite. The dream ends when Grootslang appears and attacks them.
Season 6[]
In Dream a Dream, the Dreamscape is more prominently featured as a main setting to the chapter, as the Tantabus escapes from Luna's dream realm and invades numerous others. The main realm is shown as numerous doors into other dreamscapes, each one altered differently depending on the dreamer. Each one of these was twisted into a nightmare thanks to the Tantabus.
In Wild Timber, Lapis Lazuli dreams about a forest, influenced by the claim Paula Red made to her about how he found a pine tree so tall, someone could touch the moon if they climbed to the top of it. She sees a vision of Spinel before she's woken up.
Season 7[]
In both Unintended Triangle and To Change the Future PT2, The Spirit used the Dreamscape in order to confront Steven Universe, Amethyst, Peridot and Twilight Sparkle on their behavior, warning them about the potential future of the Windigo destroying everything thanks to them. The second time was to show the rest of the future vision and the Spirit showing her anger towards him. Ruby enters this dreamscape during the secondary use.
Season 8[]
In To Face the Symphony, Steven dreams in which he and a Pink Pearl almost identical to White Diamond's, except for having pink hair and eyes, no cracked eye and a playful personality, are playing together. Steven is juggling bubbles with various random objects inside them. When Yellow Diamond opens the door, with only her very long neck and head stretching into the room, the two-act orderly, and when she leaves, they start laughing. Steven starts to cough up Rose's hair as the dreams fades away in rain.
In Moles in the Burrow, Steven is visited by Nichrome in his dream. Nichrome proceeds to open his stomach like an oven, and placed a cake in him, which drained him of all his colors before it was completely cooked.
Season 9[]
In A Universe Away, Steven enters the Dreamscape numerous times throughout the chapter:
- The first dream replays the final battle between Stevonnie and Grogar, showing how Stevonnie killed Garnet.
- The second dream showed a sky-like landscape, Steven as an angel alongside many of his friends. He is stopped by the gates, and thrown away from the others who crossly watch him fall down before he woke up.
- The third dream involves a similar idea to the first dream, only Stevonnie is chasing Grogar in a car. This dream is altered by Red Diamond, who enters the dreamscape and warns Steven of Grogar's return and that he has to stop him.
